South Dakota Intrastate Movement
A Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) is not required to move domestic animals intrastate unless moving to a livestock show or exhibition.Cattle/Bison
All breeding cattle and bison over 18 months of age:- Official ID recorded and submitted to the SD Animal industry board by a licensed and accredited veterinarian
 
- Non-virgin breeding bulls
 - Negative PCR test conducted by an AAVLD accredited laboratory; results are valid until the bull has returned to breeding activity
 - Cows
 - Must be pregnant
 - Exemptions:
 - Virgin heifers
 - Cows accompanied by its own offspring prior to re-breeding
 
Small Ruminants - Sheep and Goats
All breeding animals and intact feeding animals over 18 months of age:- Individual official ID is required
 - Records of identification and flock identificaiton must be maintained for 5 years
 
- Tested negative - Using ELISA test within 30 days prior to movement OR
 - Originate from a Brucella ovis free flock with a test record within the past year
 - Exemption:
 - Rams moving directly to a plant for immediate slaughter
 
Swine
All breeding and feeding animals:- Individual official ID or approved group ID is required. Records must be kept for at least two years.
 - Exemption: Swine moving directly to a plant for immediate slaughter
 
Exhibition
Livestock shows and animal exhibition events:- All livestock, including horses, cattle, sheep, poultry, and hogs, origination from within South Dakota must be accompanied by a certificate of veterinary inspection (CVI)
 - The intrastate CVI must include official ID
 - Lactating dairy cattle must have a negative test for Influenza A within 7 days of the exhibition
 - Rams 6 months of age and older must have a negative test for Brucella ovis within 90 days of the exhibition or originate from a Brucella ovis-free flock
 - No animals showing clinical signs of any infectious, contagious, or communicable disease may enter or be at a public exhibition
